Founded in 2022 in Kuala Lumpur by two mechanical engineers and a software developer, SmartBin Solutions was built to solve the inefficiencies of urban waste collection. Traditional bins often overflow, recyclables get mixed with trash, and municipalities spend heavily on inefficient collection schedules.

SmartBin uses AI-powered vision sensors to:

• Automatically sort plastics, paper, and general waste

• Track bin fill levels in real-time

• Send alerts to collection trucks when bins are near full

• Provide analytics dashboards for municipalities to optimize routes and cut costs

A pilot with 50 smart bins in a local district reduced overflow complaints by 40% and cut collection costs by 25% in three months.

Despite strong proof of concept, the team struggles with limited funding and manufacturing constraints, which prevents scaling beyond local trials. They believe JustStartUP could give them the visibility and backers they need to scale city-wide and eventually expand across Southeast Asia.
