 1. The Problem

In rural India and Southeast Asia, clean drinking water is still a daily struggle. Traditional RO systems are expensive, wasteful, and rely on stable electricity—something millions of families don’t have. Boiling water requires fuel; chemical tablets are unsafe for long-term use; and tanker water is inconsistent and costly.

Communities need an affordable, safe, hands-off purification system that works even in remote villages and flood-prone areas.

 2. The Solution — Akhoi Water Pod

Akhoi’s flagship innovation is a compact solar-powered water purification pod that uses advanced three-stage natural filtration + UV solar sterilization to deliver safe drinking water without electricity or maintenance.

Each Akhoi pod contains:

• Nano-clay membrane filter (removes heavy metals + microplastics)

• Activated carbon + silver ion chamber (kills 99% bacteria & viruses)

• Solar-powered UV sterilization (final kill-step, zero electricity)

• Self-cleaning sediment layer using gravity-based backflow

The system produces up to 22–25 liters/day of clean drinking water using contaminated river, pond, or pipeline sources.

 3. Technology Stack

 4. Founding Team

Akhoi was founded in 2024 by three sustainability engineers from IIT Kharagpur:

• Arko Sen – Mechanical engineer, water systems specialist

• Hiral Roy – Nanomaterials researcher

• Omkar B. – Solar energy systems developer

Together, they aim to solve one of Asia’s biggest challenges: clean water access at scale.
